This is a great game for training solid alerts and scent discrimination when your dog is training for scent works. Additionally its a brain game boredom buster on rainy days or if your dog is on bed rest.
How to play:
-Start with one stacking jar. Place your scent of choice in the top jar (lid) and then screw the lid back on to the base.
- Place your stacking jar onto a flat surface low enough for your dog to alert to the top of the jar (depending on your dogs height, the ground may be easiest).
- Grab a piece of your dog’s training food and hide it under the base piece.
- When your dog alerts to the scent on top, use your terminal marker (“Yes!”) and reveal the reward underneath.
- Reset with a new piece of food and try again! When your dog is consistently alerting, you can work on longer alerts, and also try bringing in a second (and eventually third) stacking jar into the mix with no scent in them (or even a distraction scent when they’re really good at the game) to solidify scent discrimination.
