What's Included

Setting Up Your Tube

  1. Attach the base. Press the tube firmly down into the base. The interlocking base keep it stable during searching when connected to other bases — great for energetic dogs who knock tubes over.
  2. Add your scent. Place a scented cotton tip inside the tube through the top opening. To reduce contamination, we recommend first placing the cotton tip inside a vessel (such as our brick wall vessels or magnetic vessels) so that the odour does not touch the tube/base directly.
  3. Arrange your tubes. Interlock multiple bases into lines, circles, or random patterns. Twist the tube to angle the opening toward your dog to encourage a clear directional indication.

Running a Training Session

  • Beginners: Start with one target tube and two to three blank tubes. Keep sessions short — two to three minutes — and reward your dog immediately on a correct indication.
  • We highly recommend working with a qualified training professional when starting your scent work journey as getting the foundations right is incredibly important for long term success.
  • Progressing: Gradually increase the number of blank tubes, vary the layout, and rotate which tube holds the target scent between each search.
  • Always remove odour when not in active use during a session to reduce odour transfer through the tubes.

Storage & Contamination Prevention

  • Store tubes upright when scented cotton tips are inside.
  • Use tweezers or gloves whenever you handle a scented cotton tip; oils can contaminate your skin which can in turn contaminate your search area.
  • If a small amount of oil contacts the tube interior, wipe with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol and allow to naturally air dry. Do not submerge in water or place in a dishwasher.
  • When not in use, store tubes upright in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight. Prolonged UV exposure can affect the plastic over time.

Additional Info

Made of a sleek tube and a custom made base that easily interlocks with other bases for infinite configurations of placement shapes. Whether you want to make circles, lines, or random patterns, the tubes can also be easily twisted around to train your dog to move to the scent opening for a good directional indication. The bases are also great for rougher or more excitable dogs who tend to knock tubes over while searching as the interlocking sides create more stability between the tubes!

Size

Bases are approximately 18cms wide and 7cm tall. Tube opening is 9cms in diameter, and whole unit is approximately 26cms high.

FAQs

Can these tubes be used outdoors?

Yes you can absolutely set these up outside, but we don't recommend storing them in a place where they will be subjected to high UV for long periods of time as UV can degrade (and in some situations warp) plastic.
